The Moon - Hamburg, January 2010

I once had a Bresser telescope. In January 2010, still in Hamburg, I took pictures of the moon with it, on 26 and 30 January, with a small Canon PowerShot A570 IS compact camera at the telescope. These are the ten sharpest of 156 shots: the full moon of 30 January, the waxing moon four days earlier, and some close-ups of the surface.

Sadly, I only had the Bresser for a few months - by the end of the year I had moved to California.

The Planetarium Hamburg

My interest in astronomy goes back a long way, and the Planetarium Hamburg certainly nurtured it. I first went there as early as kindergarten, with my friends. Between 16 and 19 I was a frequent visitor: almost every Friday evening in the fall and winter season I rode my bike from Niendorf through the night to the planetarium in the Stadtpark in Winterhude, to catch the special 8 pm talk - usually given by a professor of astronomy or physics. I still stop by whenever I have a chance to visit Hamburg, my old home town, so I am very attached to it. It is one of the finest planetariums in the world.
